Choose organic foods to support environment week

(NC)—June 3 to 9, 2012 is Canadian Environment Week, and many would agree that few environments are as pristine or beautiful as the great Canadian landscape.

It's a week to appreciate what we have and as importantly, it's a time for individuals and groups to take action towards preserving, protecting and restoring the environment.

“This objective comes right down to the foods we chose to consume,” says Helen Sherrard, president of the Canadian Health Food Association (CHFA). “When you buy organic foods, you are not only investing in your health, but you are also supporting sustainable, environmentally-friendly practices and humane animal welfare.

According to CHFA, here's why organic production benefits the environment by using earth-friendly agricultural methods and practices: • Organic products have been grown and handled according to strict procedures, without persistent toxic chemical inputs.

• These foods are made without the use of GMOs, and many people find they actually taste better.

• Organic farming practices help maintain a clean water supply, as well as support soil health and fertility.

• Organic farming can use 30-50% less energy, so going organic can reduce your carbon footprint and help fight climate change. Canadian Environment Week is recognized by many in different ways—and choosing natural health and organic products is one.

  • Sorry, we don't have samples. Please ask one of your local stores to carry it! These ones carry it at the moment in NL

  • Just wondering if there are any samples available to try. Saw it on the Dragon's Den and they loved it. Sure would like to get a taste but haven't seen it in stores here in western Newfoundland yet.
